Big Oil Brings Big Windmills To Where Big Dems Donors Domicile

Statoil Wind won leasing rights Friday to build an offshore wind farm in 79,350 acres of ocean 11 miles off Jones Beach with a record-setting bid of $42.46 million, the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said.
Earlier Monday, the Long Island Power Authority inked a deal with Deepwater Wind, an alternative-energy company that built the nation’s first offshore wind farm—five wind turbines in the waters of Rhode Island—to build 15 turbines 35 miles from Montauk, N.Y. The project, first reported by The New York Times, is expected to be capable of delivering energy to 50,000 average-size homes. It still needs the approval of the utility board later this week. The $1 billion buildout could be the first of many since the site has room for 200 turbines, the Times reported.

“Alternative energy, be it solar panels or wind farms, holds the promise to energy independence—but while it has been slow to take off in the U.S., residents of Long Island may see more of the wind turbines thanks to Statoil ASA (STO), the Norwegian energy company.”

Note; many Americans are unfamiliar with Statoil but it is the State Oil Company of Norway. It is probably one of the strongest financially in the world due to the incredible wealth of Norway.
The certainly could follow through with any development rights won fron the Cuomo Administration
financially.

A fun way to win a bar bet at a summer shindig is to ask “what country has the largest sovereign wealth fund ?”

no-one will ever guess the results below.

Largest Sovereign Wealth Funds by Assets Under Management
Country Sovereign Wealth Fund Name Assets USD-Bil
Norway Government Pension Fund – Global 870.81
China China Investment Corporation 813.8
UAE – Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi Investment Authority 792
Saudi Arabia SAMA Foreign Holdings 576.3

“We’re developing this first offshore wind project in federal waters, but it’s really a gateway project to other locations around Long Island,” said Thomas Falcone, the power authority’s chief executive, in the report. “We’re now at a point where developers can build projects at prices where utilities are willing buyers, and to me that is a very big deal.”

This Is An Interesting comment.

it’s really a gateway project to other locations around Long Island

It lets you know that unlike oil exploration on NY territory ,of which every possible development has been blocked by the Democrats..not to mention Nuclear and Coal and Natural Gas and…. well pretty much anything but solar and wind….

The Democratic leadership has put a

“open for Windmils” sign on the south fork of Long Island.

The irony is certainly obvious; The unsightly ,noisy and potentially dangerous windmills

could be located in and area whose towns,

[ Beebe Windmill, Ocean & Hildreath Sts.,
Bridgehampton,

Shinnecock windmill
Located on the campus of LI University Southampton College

The Hook Mill of East Hampton, LI, ]

Glorify the history of the early settlers use of windmills.

For people that aren’t from the Hamptons Checking and obsessing on a daily basis the value and “comparables” of super high real estate prices and how your property competes is the local pastime.

The same as how college basketball fans follow March Madness.

Of course,It’s hard not to when every supermarket lobby is replete with multiple rows of glossy realtor magazines full of high end “real estate porn” spreads of $200 million homes.

Any impediment to a property value is to be met with a stern response by defensive property owners who have a very valuable investment.
The Other irony is of course the status of the Hamptons as “the piggy bank of the DNC”

Some of the richest and most powerful Democratic donors own hyper expensive properties on the South fork .Locals know this but here’s a link for the the “regular folks”

In the summer months top fundraisers like John Corsine regularly patrol the numerous party’s, fundraisers, and social events for money to fund the Democratic cause.

A central plank of the platform is alternative energy.

Now the question will become if they can make sure they don’t have to “eat their own cooking” by having the windmills in their panoramic ocean views.

Theirs a long history of well connected wealthy folks seeking and getting a “accommodation” from Albany.

One that is detailed in Robert Cairos great book; the Power Broker involves the sleazy deals involved in plowing the northern state parkway through the back yard of some of the country’s richest folks when it was being built in the 20s through Tony Wheatley Hills ..

Moses thought he was untouchable then but he soon got a lesson from the rich and powerful elite of the Nassau County.

All the Residents hated the idea…but some of the wealthy and well connected took action to stop it and cause the northern state parkway to be relocated to the “little peoples ” property. There are several jogs in the road where the road was relocated around rich folks estates

The passage below shows how a few well place bribes caused Robert Moses ;NY States Legendary Highway Builder, to use taxpayer money so a rich guys back yard wouldn’t be disturbed.
“While the compromise was a success for the residents of Wheatley Hills, according to Robert Caro in The Power Broker, the $175,000 was a smokescreen for the fact that the land purchasing would cost $2.25 million (1929 USD) and rather than the locals, the taxpayers would be stuck with the majority (over 90%) of the bill from the acquisition. The $175,000 also was claimed by Moses to have been spending for the entire cost of the detour, rather than the land acquisition. Caro goes on to explain that the accommodations made for the citizens of Wheatley Hills denied Long Islanders some of the parks on the North Shore that had been proposed by Moses, pardoning Caumsett State Park. Caro also explained that along with the $10,000 bribe that Moses had accepted, the illegal purchases of the Taylor Estate would turn him into a beating stick for the politicians of New York to get him to stop fighting.”

It’s fun to think about what will happen if the unlimited wealth of Statoil come up against the infinite connections to the DNC and massive checks donated to “the cause” of the uber rich Dune Road Donor set..

Who will be the winner?.

Or will the 100 million dollar home owners embrace the progress of green energy relocating in their sight?
